Wayne Chester Josey,
92, of Maxeys, died Thursday, September
24, 2009,
at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born in Lee County, S.C., he was a son of the late William Chester and Julia
Scarborough Josey. He was a graduate of Coker College and a graduate of the
Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.. He was a U.S. Army
veteran of World War II and retired from the U.S. Army Reserve as a Lt.
Colonel. He also served in the S.C. National Guard. Mr. Josey was a political
science teacher in Oglethorpe and Clarke County School Systems and first taught
Bible at Kingstree High School in South Carolina. The Rev. Josey was
a retired Southern Baptist Minister. During his ministry, he served churches in
Indiana, South Carolina and Georgia.
Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce J. and David Mickle of Camden,
S.C.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Dwayne W. Josey of Saluda, S.C.,
Ricky W. and Angie Josey of Canon and Michael A. and Lori McKeel of Athens; one
sister, Julia "Jupie" Wendlinger of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; 15
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday,
September 29, 2009, at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery in Bishopville, S.C.
