Denise G. Josey Thomas, 48, die on Good Friday, April 10, 2009, bringing to close a life spent in service to God, her family and friends.

Daughter of the late Eddie James and Geneva Watson Josey, Denise was born June 26, 1960 in Chattanooga. Denise was a faithful and dedicated member of Greater Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church. She was a 1978 graduate of Howard High School.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Genetta Josey; sister-in-law, Yolanda Rachel Josey.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Maurice Thomas; children, Cedric Josey Sr., Quincy Richards, Bambi Powell, Brandy Powell, Tamisha (Richard IV) McGee and Lauren Danielle Thomas; goddaughter, Tamara L. Banks; brothers, Walter L., Eddie J. Jr. (Michelle), Eugene T. (Diane) Josey; sister, Bertha Lansden; grandchildren, Cedric L. Josey Jr., Faith and Qua Tavia Richards, DeAsia McClain, TyQuan Moore, LaZavia and Ashanti Roshelle, RaMyia, Ricahrd V and Ramyia McGee, Demetrius Hampton; nieces and nephews, Maletha (Ronald) Belgon, Anthony (Sophia) Lansden, Kelly McDonald, Corey Landsden, Krisha Davis, Nakia (Presley) Mathis, Crystal and Darnell Josey, Thomas (Tiffany) Smith, Tasha Josey; mother-in-law, Evangelist, Edna Thomas Mathis; three sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law; 36 great-nieces and great-nephews; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; including dedicated friends, Tondaleria Springs, Michael Garth, Valencia Green, Emmitt Josey Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, at New Enon Baptist Church with Dr. Andrew J. Bullard III officiating and Pastor Alexander J. Bullard Sr., eulogist. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be after noon on Saturday at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
