Obituary Royce E
Josey, 91, of Milledgeville, Georgia, went to meet Jesus
on Sunday, April 24. He was born on September
13, 1930,
to Lee Roy and Alva Josey in Milledgeville, one of four children. Royce was a
veteran of the Korean War, where he served honorably in the Army as a lineman
from 1951-1953. He told the tale of falling from a telephone poll in Pirmasens, Germany, and walking away
unscathed. He retired from Central State Hospital in 1992, after
serving as a maintenance supervisor for 34 years. In 1956, he married the love
of his life, Jane, going on to have 4 daughters. Royce was a member of Northside Baptist Church where he loved his
Sunday School class, Woodmen of the World, Old Capital
Car Club, and the Gospelaires singing group. He
participated in a nursing home singing ministry and volunteered at the
Methodist Home for Children. Royce loved fishing (he was an expert at
knot-tying), fixing everything but especially appliances, and spending time
with his family. He was known for his delicious Brunswick stew and he was often
seen riding around the neighborhood on the golf cart with Jane and his dog,
Angel. Anyone who knew Royce knew that he was the most loving husband, father,
and grandfather a family could ask for. He was preceded in death by his mother,
Alva, his father, Lee Roy, and sisters, Alva Lee Wright, Doris Clance, and Laura McDade. Royce
is survived by his wife, Jane, daughters: Robin (Bruce), Penny (Billy), Ginger
(Ron), and Holly (Marc), grandchildren: Brandy, Josh (Sherry), Bailey, Kallie (Scott), Dylan (Kensey),
Daniel (Courtney), Dakota (Wes), Alex (Aron), Nick (Maegan), and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will
be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April
27th at the chapel of Moores Funeral Home. Burial
will follow at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The family will
receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 until 1:30
p.m.
at Moores Funeral Home. Flowers are welcome and memorial
contribution may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Memorial
Giving, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Moores Funeral Home & Crematory has charge of
arrangements. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Royce,
