Dr Richard Bedon Josey 59 of 303 Southwood Drive died Thursday night at Columbia Hospital.

Dr Joesy was born in Columbia son of the late Alfred B and Josephine Izard Josey. he was a graduate of the University of South Carolina a graduate of the School of Medicine University of Rochester Rochester NY. he later interned in the New York City Hospital.

He practices pediatric in Columbia from 1938 until 1965 and in January 1965 he joined the medical staff of the University of South Carolina.

He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, the Richland County Medical Society, the South Carolina Medical Society, Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, the Columbia Ball and Forest Lake Country Club.

He served as a major in the US Army Medical Corps during World War II.

Dr Josey was twice married first to Norma Vanderlip Josey who died in 1965, and later to Mrs Ann Gantt Josey who survives him.

Surviving the first marriage are two children Mrs H Bland Hammond III and Richard B Josey Jr; two step daughters Mrs WC Barksdale Jr and Miss Anne Courtney Seigler; a brother Dr. A Izard Josey of Columbia; a sister Enid Josey Brourton of Columbia; a niece and a nephew.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Dunbar Funeral Home Gervais Street Chapel
