Opal Christine
Josey Holifield
Mrs. Opal Christine Holifield went to be with her
Lord June 1, 2010, at the age of 92.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 5, at Memory Chapel
with burial at Mill Creek Cemetery. Rev. Eddie Bryant will officiate.
Born to Daniel E. and Claudia S. Josey, life began for Opal on June 18, 1917, in the Glade Community of Jones
County. She graduated high school at Ellisville and afterward worked for a time
at the Reliance Garment Factory in Laurel. In 1940, she married Beasley J. Holifield. They were married for 57 years.
During her marriage to Beasley, they resided for about 20 years in Brookhaven,
where she was an active member and Sunday School
teacher of the First Baptist Church. While there, she raised her two sons, Don and Neil.
After moving back to Glade, Opal worked from home as a seamstress for Aycock Roberts Furniture Store. She was also a member of
Tucker's Crossing Baptist Church where she faithfully attended for many years.
Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Beasley J. Holifield;
parents, Daniel and Claudia Josey; three sisters, Vada
Hughes, Myrtle Coker, and Jewel Montgomery; three brothers, Cecil Josey, Fred
Josey, and Aldean Josey.
Opal is survived by two sons, Don Holifield of Pensacola and Neil Holifield
of Moss
Point; three grandchildren, Karen Barker, Janna Paul, and Steven Holifield; and two great-grandchildren, Caleigh
Barker and Laurel Paul.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tucker's Crossing Baptist
Church Building Fund.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday, June 4, at Memory Chapel of
Laurel, which is in charge of the arrangements.
