Dr.
John Speir Josey, 86, of St. Simons Island, passed away May 21, 2014. He practiced
ophthalmology in Brunswick from 1962 to 1998.
Dr. Josey was born in Bartow, Georgia, and graduated from Georgia Military College, Duke University, and The Medical College
of Georgia. He was proud to have served in the U.S. Navy, attached to the
Marines as a medical officer and flight surgeon from 1953 to 1956. He was a
Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology
& Otolaryngology. His serious demeanor masked a dry wit, which often caught
people off guard. Family, friends, and patients loved him for this and other
fine qualities. He is survived by his wife, Lola Robuck
Josey, sons John Josey of Massachusetts and Alan Josey and
wife Anne of California, granddaughters Hayden Josey of Alabama and Claire Josey of California, sister
Jacquelyn Josey Hahne and brother Dr. William Ellis
Josey, both of Atlanta. A visitation will be
held Sunday, May 25, from 3 to 5 at Edo Miller & Sons Funeral Home
