Former Anchorage resident Jessie Max Josey Sr., 65,
of Lascassas, Tenn., died May 16,
2006, at
his son's home in Cainsville, Tenn.
A service was May 19 at Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home. Burial was
afterward at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Murphresboro Tenn.
He was born May
8, 1941, in
Laurel Hill, Fla., to Willard and Essie Josey. He
remained in Florida until he started his military
career in 1959 and proudly served his country in Vietnam for 39 months. He was honored as an
outstanding drill sergeant for 13 consecutive weeks at Fort Knox and retired in January 1980.
In October 1984, Mr. Josey went to
work for the Municipality of Anchorage and retired to Tennessee in November 1996.
He was preceded in death by his
daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Josey.
He is survived by his wife of 46
years, Jeanette Warren Josey; children and their spouses, Bubba and Vicki
Josey, Jeff and Linda Josey, John Josey, and Linda Josey, all of Tennessee; siblings,
Will Josey of Sterling, R.D. Josey of Florida, and Glen Josey and Gwen Bolieu, both of Anchorage; and grandchildren, Brian Josey,
Megan and Mallory Josey and Jessie, Hannah and Margaret Josey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to Sarah Cannon Cancer Research Center or a fund for the education of his
