Jacqueline Ann "Jackie" Helfrich

January 10, 1934  -  January 29, 2023

Jacqueline (Jackie) Josey Helfrich - Born January 10,1934, in Shreveport, LA and predeceased by

her parents, Roy and Cleo Sims Josey. Jackie grew up in the Shreveport/Vivian, LA area and

graduated from Fair Park High School, in Shreveport, LA in 1952, where she went to work as a

telephone operator at Southern Bell Telephone.

Jackie met her future husband Chuck in Shreveport, LA and that is where they married. They

spent the next 18 years traveling in the military, which included several bases stateside and

Germany, Philippines and then Hawaii and retired in Tampa, FL in 1970. Jackie and Chuck had

four sons and seven grandchildren over the years.

While traveling with Chuck and the family in the military, Jackie was involved in many

organizations, i.e., Air Police Wives' Club. NCO Wives' Club, Cub Scout Den Mother, Base Sunday

School Teacher, Red Cross Gray Lady Volunteer, the Women's Guild at the base chapels, etc.)

Jackie's family was extremely important to her. During the period spent in the Philippines, Jackie

volunteered in the Clark AFB Hospital tending the wounded coming in from the battlefields of

Vietnam. That experience had a jolting impact upon her, in that she was even more determined

that if the young men and women of our country go to war, they should definitely be given the

backing of their entire country, as they are only doing their duty. She felt very strongly about that.

While in Hawaii, Jackie worked at the Pearl Harbor commissary and went to night business

classes. From there, Jackie worked in the Pearl Harbor Chaplain's office during the Vietnam War

for a year and toward the end of the war, that office closed and she went to work in a bank in

Honolulu, Hawaii. After relocation back to Florida, Jackie worked as a secretary, then as a

Hospital Materials Manager for 18 years. Most of her life:, she spent working as much as possible

on her family and Chuck's genealogy, an avid hobby that she thoroughly enjoyed. During that

pursuit, she found delight in interviewing so many older relatives in her family and Chuck's family.

Then, she began building a web site with that information and then a homemade book for the

entire family, so that every family member could have their history on some of the lines as far

back as 1565.

One of the most precious memories that Jackie had in her lifetime was when the entire family

came in for the 50s wedding anniversary for her and Chuck in 2002. The family posed for two very

special family pictures that have been Jackie's prized treasures.

Jackie is predeceased by her beloved husband, Chuck.
