DARLINGTON Funeral services for Herman Red Eye Alford, 50, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at Greater Gethsemane Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, Inc. with Bishop Kenneth J. Swaringer, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the Greater Gethsemane Devotional Garden, directed by Mitchell–Josey Funeral Home.

Mr. Alford died Thursday, April 29, at his residence after a long illness. He was born in
Darlington County, a son of the late Naomi Alford. After the passing of his mother, he was reared by his uncle and aunt, Marie Alford and the late Arthur Sonny Alford.

He received his formal education in the
Darlington County public schools. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He was an employee of Goodson Construction Company and David Automotive. He was a member of the Greater Gethsemane Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, Inc.

He was married to Irene Dixon and to this union a son, Eric Wesley Alford, was born and preceded him in death.

Survivors include his former wife, Irene Dixon Alford of Darlington; step–children, Jennifer (Silvaris) Hooks and David J. Dixon; a grandson, Javion James, all of Darlington; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Carrie Bailey of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a brother, Wesley (Marie) Alford of Raleigh N.C.; five sisters, Carrie Moses of Darlington, Hurlean Lunn of Baltimore, Md., Johnnie Mae Kennedy, Jacqueline Kennedy, both of Florence, and Mary Lee Williams of Bronx, N.Y., and Rose Kennedy of Columbia; two aunts, Loudella (Robert) Levenson and Dorethy Moose; an uncle Walter (Marjorie) Alford; two special grand–aunts, Sue Genia Josey and Marie Alford, both of Darlington; a special cousin, William (Eva Mae) Alford; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; and dear friends, Eddie and Carolyn Goodson.
