Helen Effie Elizabeth Josey Byers Obituary

Helen Josey Byers, 95, formerly of Statesville, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Grace Heights in Morganton, NC.

Born in Iredell County on April 12, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Brown Josey and Lou Etta Josey.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wade F. Byers and daughter, Barbara Byers Harvey.

Mrs. Byers was one of the first women to serve the community with the Statesville Police Department.

She was a charter member of the North Carolina Police Women's Association; the Iredell County Retired Police Officer's Association and was a member of Front Street Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Richard Franklin Byers and Phyllis Byers of Valdese; son-in-law, John Harvey of Florida; five grandchildren, Richard Scott Byers (Janet), Andrew Franklin Byers (Jenifer), John Bryan Harvey (Lori), Mary Elizabeth Harvey Scarborough (Scott) and Deborah Harvey Taylor (Gregory).

She is further survived by twelve grandchildren, Sophie Byers, Mallory Byers, Austin Mitchell, Christopher Harvey, Nick Harvey, Drew Harvey, Charlie Scarborough, Evie Scarborough, Lilly Scarborough, Abigail Taylor, Emma Taylor and Lola Taylor.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 16, 2015 from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with the service beginning at 11:00 AM in the Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. Jeff Sweeny officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
