Hazel Sallie Josey
Goode
Hazel Sallie Goode, 91, entered into eternal rest on Sunday,
January 15, 2006, at Retama Manor in Harlingen, Texas.
She was born on November 9, 1914, in Meridian, Texas, to Martin and
Schada Josey. Hazel moved with her family to the Rio Grande Valley in the late 1920s.
She married Douglas H. Goode on August 12, 1936, and they had a
wonderful 48 years together. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, preparing the
Sunday communion there for many years and was actively involved in the women’s
group at her church. Hazel was a very dedicated wife and mother, and her strong
love of God and her family was first in her eyes.
Hazel was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Douglas H. Goode, and her
siblings, Elsie Bullard, Gladys Walk, Troy, Carl, James, Roby
and Grady Josey.
Left to mourn her passing are her son, Wayne Goode,
and his wife, Jackie of Mesquite, Texas; her daughter, Naydene Ford, and her
husband, Sammy of South Padre Island, Texas; three grandchildren, Cheryl
Stevens of South Padre Island, Texas, Vicki Cook of Plano, Texas, and Michael Ford
of Gresham, Ore. In addition, she is
survived by three great-grandchildren, Kelsey Cook, Lindsey Cook and Vanessa
Ford, together with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews,
cousins and countless family members.
Hazel was loved by so many and will surely be missed by her family and a host
of friends.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7
p.m.
Wednesday at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
Memorial services celebrating Hazel’s life will be held at 10
a.m.
on Thursday, January 19, 2006, at Darling-Mouser
Funeral Home, 945 Palm Blvd., Brownsville, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial contributions in
Hazel’s name be made to Sunny Glen Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1373, San Benito, TX 78586
