ELIZABETH JOSEY
OBITUARY
Elizabeth Anne Josey
"Anne", of
Born at the height
of the Great Depression and on the edge of the Dust Bowl near Raton, NM to
Patrick and Bertha (McDonald) Berry, Anne quickly learned the security of a
loving yet humble home, to value hard work and a job well done, the merits of
lifelong learning and community service, and to cherish family and friends. Beginning
school at the age of four to ensure there were enough students to ride the bus
in her ranching community, Anne proved to be a bright and energetic student.
She would go on to earn her B.A. degree and to serve as a teacher and mentor to
students at
Anne was the loving
mother of six children, a devoted wife, and the bedrock of her family. As a
devout Catholic, she was an active member of the Women's Guild at Our Lady of
Fatima Catholic Church. Slow to judge and immensely tolerant, Anne provided
comfort and stability to her family, friends, and many young people to whom she
lent support and guidance. Her charity was not a hand out but a hand up. Anne
lived a generous life with strength and dignity, a life of love.
Anne was preceded in
death by her husband of 51 years, Robert; five siblings; her eldest son,
Patrick; a grandson, Matthew; and a son-in-law, Larry. She is survived by her
sister, Jane (Pat); her children, Suzanne (Tom), Michael, John (Eileen),
Kathleen, Margaret (Jason); her grandchildren, Caitlin, Kenneth (Nicole), Sarah
(Kael), Robert (Bailey), Stephen (Robert), Brian
(Laura), Alix, Colin, Kevin (Katie), Claire, Isabelle,
Walter, and Hayden; and her great-granddaughters, Ansleigh,
Eloise, and Libby.
