LYNCHBURG - Services for
Charles Wofford Josey Jr. , 79, will be held at
Friday at BethanyBaptistChurch, with burial in the
church cemetery. Rev. Gene Stokes and Rev. Tommy Morrow will officiate.
Honorary pallbearers will be I. Harby Moses, A.M. Welsh and Joseph E. Summerour
Jr. The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Elmore-Hill-McCreight
Funeral Home, Sumter, and other times at
the home. Memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church Building Fund or the
American Cancer Society.
Mr. Josey died Wednesday,
Nov. 4, 1998,
at Tuomey Healthcare System. Born in LeeCounty, he was a son of
the late Charles W. Josey Sr. and Jessie Brown Josey. Mr. Josey was a member of
BethanyBaptistChurch. He was a member of
the Southeastern Cotton Ginners Association, a former member of the Advisory
Board of the Department of Natural Resources, a long time member of the N.C.
Horseless Carriage Club of America and a member of Manville Masonic Lodge. Mr.
Josey was a retired farmer.
Surviving are his
wife, Athalea King Josey of Lynchburg; sons, Stanley D. Josey and Cecil L.
Josey, both of Lynchburg; stepdaughter, Pat Stokes and son-in-law, Rev. Gene
Stokes of Camden; grandchildren, Cecil L. Josey Jr. of Florence, Spencer Walker
Josey of Lynchburg, Courtney Jane Gamble of Sardinia and Elizabeth Ann Josey of
Mayesville; step- grandchildren, Justin, Britt and Robby of Camden;
great-grandchildren, Ann Collins Josey of Florence and Cale Gamble of Sardinia.
He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Wofford Josey III.
