Carolyn Byrd Josey Whiteley, 85, of Albemarle, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2014, in CMC Northeast, Concord, N.C.

Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2014, in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel, Albemarle, with the Rev. Doug Petersen officiating. Burial will follow in Stanly Gardens of Memory, Albemarle. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday evening, September 9, 2014, at Stanly Funeral Home.

Born September 18, 1928, in Stanly County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Clyde Oren Josey Sr. and Mattie Belle Byrd Josey.

She was a retired English teacher in Dade County, Florida and Stanly County, N.C.

Mrs. Whiteley was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed activities at the Stanly County Senior Center and was an avid bridge player.

Mrs. Whiteley was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Whiteley, and her brother, Clyde Oren “C. O.” Josey Jr.

She is survived by nephews, Oren Josey and Kyle Josey of Norwood; and nieces, Charlotte Josey Howell of Four Oaks and Julia Josey Cates of Norwood; and sister-in-law, Susie Josey of Norwood.
