Arthur Carrol
Josey COLUMBIA - Arthur Carrol Josey, died Sunday, December 2, 2018. Born in Lee County on November
27, 1935,
he was reared in the Wisacky community on a small
family farm, attended public schools of Riverside and Mayesville,
and studied accounting at Draughon's Business College in Columbia.
He was the third son of the late
Robert Elijah Josey and Bertha Elizabeth Josey. He is survived by his loving
wife, Linda L. Bush; sister, Elizabeth Ann Josey Terrell (Thomas, the best
brother-in-law one could have) of Gainesville, VA; sisters-in-law, Joyce McLeod
Josey of Wisacky, Argent Sue Reynolds Josey of Allen,
TX, and Brenda Libner of Sumter; brother-in-law, John
Douglas Shirley (Donna) of Garden City Beach; adopted family, Tom and Paula
Kurt and their daughter, Andrea, of Mt. Pleasant; several nieces and nephews;
and very special friends, Dick and Kathy Unger of Edisto Island, and Rufus and
Linda Bradley of Columbia. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 42
years, Jean Carol Shirley Josey; brothers, Douglas Josey of Wisacky,
Mendal Josey of Allen, TX; and a nephew, Mark Josey. Carrol spent some 50 years in public accounting with
national and several local South Carolina firms, the last being Schmoyer & Co., CPA's of Columbia. He was a noted provider
of services to South Carolina nursing homes and was a member of
the South Carolina Health Care Association and the South Carolina Nursing Home
Association. His associations with these organizations helped him receive the
President's Award from the South Carolina Nursing Association. He was also a
board member and active supporter of the South Carolina Waterfowl Association
and enjoyed hunting and fishing. After his marriage to Linda, they enjoyed
traveling to many countries, especially the D-Day beaches in Normandy and Cuba. Carrol
was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church where
he previously served on the Stewardship Committee and the Day School Council.
He was also an associate member of Banner Elk Presbyterian Church in Banner
Elk, NC. The service for Carrol will be held 1 o'clock, Tuesday, December 4th at Forest
Lake Presbyterian Church, 6500 N. Trenholm
Rd., Columbia, with the Rev. Dr. Ellen Fowler
Skidmore and the Rev. Dr. Lavern Witherspoon officiating.
