This DVD begins with the
family background of Bud and Marion Josey as young adults in Niagara Falls, NY and their move to
FL with their four children. It describes Bud’s professional career as he and
Marion establish The Horseless Carriage business in Dunedin, FL.
The primary focus
of the DVD, however, is the Jossey-Josey family
genealogy work done by Bud and Marion. It begins with the first reunion in Andalusia, AL and traces the
family heritage to London County England in the
1500’s. It describes why and how the
family migrated to Virginia in the 1600’s and
their move to NC, SC, GA, AL, MS, TX and beyond.
The DVD’s format is an
interview with Bud and Marion giving examples of their genealogy work including
traveling over 250,000 miles all over the country in an RV collecting family
data. It describes some of their personal experiences in talking to family
members; taking pictures of cemeteries; recording birth certificates, death
certificates, wedding licenses, etc. from County Court Houses. It shows the
progression of recording the data in printed volumes (which is now in the
Library of Congress) to creating CD’s with the same information, to the
development of The House of Jossey-Josey website (where all the information is
now free and accessible to all family
members).
This DVD is a testament to
the work Bud and Marion have done in the development of the House of Jossey-Josey.
It provides their first-hand account of how they became interested in the
family genealogy and the hard work, time and energy they have given to HOJJ
during the past 20+ years. It shows where family reunions have been held every
two years from 1989 to 2011. It is a
family treasure and valuable resource of the Jossey-Josey family history which
can be used for years to come.
