This indenture made the 24th day of December in the year of our Lord One Thousand

Eighteen Hundred and Four. Between WlLLIA,~~fJOSSEY of the County of Salem in the State

of South Carolina of the one part. And CHAIUES BARFIELD of the COlUlty of Edgecombe and the State ofNoith C~olina of the other part. Witnesseth that I the said WILLIAM JOSSEY for and in consideration of the sum of Two Hundfed Pounds, current money of this State, to me in hand paid by said CHARLES BARFIEID, the receipt of which I do hereby acknowledge, & myself therewith fully satisfied, contented & paid, hath and by these presence doth fully, freely & absolutely grant, bargain,sell & convey & confirm unto him the said CHARLES BARFIELD, his heirs & assigns a certain tract or parcel ofland situated lying & being in the said County of Edgecomhe, on the North side of Pas nOlO SwaIIlp& on Bear Branch bounded as followeth 10

witt. Beginning at a,Gum on the run of said Bear Branch, then a line of JASON SINGLETON'S old patent to a comer Pine, then along a line of inarked trees to a comer White Oak on the Marsh Branch, then down the various courses of said Marsh Branch to the Spring Branch, then dO\·vn the various courses of said Spring Branch to the Bear Branch, then down the various courses of Bear Branch to the nrst station, by estimation One H\U1dred acres be the same more or less, is being the same land conveyed to said HARREL by a deed of sale from SAMUEL MOOR & whereon said HARREL lately lived, to have & to hold the said land by the said bounds, be the same more or less, together with all & singular the appurtenances thereupon or thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining unto him the said CHARLES BARFIELD, his heirs & assigns, to his & their only proper use, benefit & behoof forever, and I the said Wll.llAM JOSSEY, for myself, my

heirs, executors & admin. do covenant, promise & agree to & unto him the said CHARLES BARFIELD, his heirs & assigns, from time to time and at all times forever hereafter, peaceably & quietly to have and to hold, possess, occupy and enjoy the said land & premises & the same clearly acquit and discharge of & from. all, and all ni~orofformer gifts, grants, bargains, sales, leans, morgages & of and from all encumbranceswha~oever.& I the said WILLIAM JOSSEY, for myself, my heirs, executors & admin. the aforesaid land & premises \U1to him said CHARLES BARFIELD, his heirs & assigns against all and alllnanor of person or persons whatsoever claiming the same or any part thereof, do and will by these presents, Warrant and forever defend.
