            This indenture made and entered into this first day of February in the year One Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty One.  Between WILLIAM JOSEY, of the County of Northampton and State of North Carolina of the first part & WILLIAM BISHOP of the County of Bertie and State aforesaid, of the second part, witness that the said WILLIAM JOSEY, for and in consideration of the sum of Eighty Five Dollars, to him in hand paid by the said WILLIAM BISHOP, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged has given, granted, bargained, sold, alieved, released and confirmed and by these presents doth give, grant, bargain, sell, alieve, release and confirm unto the said WILLIAM BISHOP, his heirs or assigns the one fourth of an undivided tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Bertie & State aforesaid which belong to the heirs of the late ARTHUR BROWN, containing in the entire tract, Three Hundred and Forty acres, be the same more or less and adjoining the lands of the said WILLIAM BISHOP, THOMAS F> NORFLEET and EDMOND PEOPLES.  To have and to hold the aforesaid bargaineth premises with all misusages tenements tracts or parcels of land and rend singular the rights hereditamonts, privileges and appurtenances thereto belonging or in any wise appertaining to him the said WILLIAM BISHOP, his heirs or assigns to his or theirs only proper use and behoof  forever and the said WILLIAM JOSEY for himself and his heirs the aforesaid bargained premises and every part and parcel thereof against himself and his heirs & again all and every other person or persons whomsoever with warrant and for ever defend the right & title in and to the aforesaid bargained premises to the said WILLIAM BISHOP his heirs executors, administrators or assigns. In witness whereof I the said WILLIAM JOSEY hath hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the day and year first above written.
