28 November 1860                      SALLIE A. JOSEY  Dower

 

     To the sheriff of Northampton County, Greeting;  You are hereby commanded to summon a jury of good and lawful men unconnected with the parties neither  by commanquinity nor affinity and entirely disinterested and take with you the County surveyer, who upon oath, shall allot and set off by metes and bounds, to SALLIE A. JOSEY, Widow and relict of WILLIAM T. JOSEY dec'd; One third in value of all this lands, tenements and hereditaments in said County of which the said WILLIAM T. JOSEY dec'd. seized or possessed, as set forth in her petition for Dower. That is to say, One tract of land adjoining the lands of MARTHA JOSEY, and commonly known as the RANDOLPH tract, containing 233 5/8 acres; another tract of land containing 13 3/4 acres, adjoining the lands of H. COPELAND & Others. JOSEY'S interest in the last said tract is One Half thereof in fee simple. That the Widow dower, exclusively on the RANDOLPH Tract, and others, containing about____ acres, and put her in possisson of the same including the dwelling house in which her said Husband was accustomed to dwell most, generally most before his death, Together with their offices, out houses, buildings and other improvements thereunto belonging or appertaining, and report to the next term of this Court. Issued 10th day of September 1860.

     State of North Carolina, Northampton County,   Pursuant to the annexed order to me directed, I, SAMUEL A. WARREN Sheriff of said county, have this day went upon the premises named in said order, attended by JOEL CONNOR, county surveyor, and the apertaining  jurors to wit; JAMES  OLIVER,  JOHN W. PLIDGER, ROBERT BINGHAM, ELIAS ELLIOTT, JOSEPHINE COPELND, JOSEPH HAIL, ANDERSON TRIBULL, JAMES WHITEHEAD, EXUM TRIBULL, NATHANIEL BRINGHAM, JAMES B. SAULS, AUGUSTUS JAMES, good and lawful jurors being summoned and qualified according to law, have provided to allot off and set apart unto SALLIE A. JOSEY, Widow of WILLIAM T. JOSEY dec'd;  Fifty Eight acres land including the dwelling house, and out houses, including also Ten acres of woodland on the same tract, adjoining the land of THOMAS _______, making in all Sixty Eight acres as her Dower. Metes and bounds of which will fully appear by reference to the survey and plat made by JOEL CONNORS, given under our hands and seals this 10th day of October 1860.                      ( NOTE, Juros all signed and plot shown in on deed).

     The above Two plats A & B is the content of Seventy acres of land, surveyed and allotted  off as Dower to Mrs. SARAH JOSEY, Widow of WILLIAM T. JOSEY dec'd; late of Northampton County, (N.C) being adjudged by a jury to be the One Third part in value of all the lands of said dec'd; Metes and bounds of said Dower as follows, to Wit; The lot having the letter "B" beginning at a corner Stake on the Road leading from Rich Square to NORFLEETS Ferry, running thence down said Road N.35 E.108 poles near a bridge a crop said Road, then N.69 E.31 poles to MARTHA JOSEY'S line, then her line S.494 E.89 poles to a corner Stake, thence through the Plantation S.54 W.71 poles to a corner Stake, then S.89 W.100 poles to the first station. Containing Fifty Eight acres. The lot "A" near Corinth Church, Beginning at a corner White Oak running thence S.79 W.30 poles to VANNS corner Hickory Stump, then N.14 W.57 poles to Three corner Gums, thence R. BANANS line N.34 E.34 poles to a corner Stone, a new line S.13 1/2 E.82 poles to the first station. Containing Twelve acres of lumber land.  Given under my hand this November 28th, 1860.  ( Note Road NORFLEETS Ferry)
