WILL OF JONATHAN BOYKIN

In the name of God amen - I Jonathan Boykin of the State of Alabama, Montgomery County - being of Sound mind & memory, but weak in body and knowing that it is appointed unto all men once to die do make this my last Will and testament - 1 - I, Command my Soul to god who gave it and my body to be buried in a decent Christian manner - and my worldly goods I, dispose of as follows –

 (Viz) I. give unto John Dority (sister Mary's husband) one negro man named Anthony (now, in the possession of E.R. Morse of Alabama, Montgomery Co) and all my bedding & furniture medicine chest and one hundred dollars to pay all my burying expenses (the Bedding is in the possession of Wm. Montgomery of Ala Montgomery Co).

 I give unto my Mother Sarah Boykin the Hire of Anthony this year the amount being one hundred dollars - It is my will that my Exrs. collect all that is due me from the firm of Murphy & Brack and out of the Same I give unto my Brother John (of South Carolina) one hundred dollars, and also to my Brother Baswell (of Mississippi) one hundred dollars, the residue if any I. give unto John Dority -

I give unto my Brother Drewry Boykin my watch, my wearing apparel, my walking cane and all the money in hand (after taking out the hundred dollars for burying expenses as above mentioned) -

I give unto my Sister Sarah Jossey all the money due me from Seaborn S. Westmoreland, Almond Freeman & Thos. M Parker - lastly I nominate & fully constitute John Dority & William Montgomery to Execute this my last will & testament Witness my hand & Seal this 25th day of May A.D. 1839 -
