23 February 1801 JOHN WHITEHEAD to JOHN JOSSEY

This indenture made this 23 rd day of February in the year of our Lord One Thousand and Eight Hundred and One, Between JOHN WHITEHEAD and LIDDA, his wife of Halifax County in North Carolina of the one part and JOHN JOSSEY, of County aforesaid of the other. Witnesseth that the said JOHN and LIDDA, for and in consideration of Two Hundred and Twenty Five pounds currency of the state aforesaid to them in hand paid, Before the sealing and delivery here of well and truly paid by JOHN JOSSEY, the receipt whereof the said JOHN and LIDDA, doth hereby acknowledge and themselves there with fully satisfied and paid and of every part and parts thereof doth hereby acquit and discharge the said JOHN JOSSEY, his heirs and assigns forever hath granted, bargained, sold, conveyed and confirmed and by these presents doth fully freely clearly and absolutely grant, bargain, sell, convey and confirm to him the said JOHN JOSSEY, his heirs and assigns forever, a part of Plantation and tract or parcel of land containing eighty acres, be the same more or less, lying on the North side of Looking Glass swamp in the County aforesaid. Beginning in the middle of Looking Glass swamp a straight line that was divided between JAMES JOSSEY, and the said JOHN JOSSEY, near a North East course to a small Hickory tree a corner between the said JOHN WHITEHEAD, and the said JOHN JOSSEY, then running a straight line of marked trees near a North course to LEWIS BOND'S, fence cornering in two Pines, Then running near a South West course along BOND'S line, formerly called BENJAMIN CHAMPION'S, line to the middle of said swamp, Then down the main run to the first station and all the reversion and reversions, remainder and remainders, and all the whole right title and estate of the said JOHN WHITEHEAD and LIDDA, his wife in to or out of the said land and premises. To have and to hold forever the said given granted premises with all the appurtenances and privileges thereunto belonging or any way appertaining to the said JOHN JOSSEY, his heirs and assigns forever to his their only proper use benefit and behalf forever and the said JOHN WHITEHEAD and LIDDA, for themselves, their heirs executors and administrators covenant promise and agree to and with the said JOHN JOSSEY, his heirs and assigns forever. That the said JOHN JOSSEY, his heirs and assigns shall and may at all times forever hereafter lawfully and peaceably enjoy the aforesaid land with all the appurtenances free and clear from incumbrances and claims whatsoever and the said JOHN and LIDDA, for themselves their heirs and Assigns the said land with all the appurtenances unto him the said JOHN JOSSEY, his heirs and assigns will, well and to warrant and forever defend. In witness whereof the said JOHN WHITEHEAD and LIDDA, hath hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year above written.
