24 February 1794      JAMES and LYDIA JOSSEY  to  SAMUEL PITMAN

 

     This Indenture made the 24 th day of February  One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Four between JAMES JOSSEY and LYDIA his wife of the county of Halifax in the state of North Carolina of the one part and SAMUEL PITMAN of the county and state aforesaid of the other part, Witnesseth that the said JAMES JOSSEY and LYDIA his wife, for and in consideration of the sum of Four Hundred and Eighty pounds current money of the said state to them in hand paid by the said SAMUEL PITMAN, before the ensealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, satisfied, contented and paid. Have given, granted, bargained, sold, alienated and confirmed unto the said SAMUEL PITMAN, his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land, situate, lying in the county aforesaid, on the North side of Looking Glass Swamp, containing One Hundred and Sixty acres, which land was left the said JAMES JOSSEY, by his father JAMES JOSSEY dec'd; by Will, reference being had to the records of Halifax County Court, the courses will appear, and is bounded by a line dividing the said land from the land of JOHN JOSSEY, on one side. The line of Mr. POLLOCK on another side, The line of BENJAMIN CHAMPION on another side, and The other side by the Mill Pond of Mr. JOHN EDWARDS, on the other side. To have and to hold the said granted and bargained land and premises, with all and singular, the appurtenances and privileges to the same belonging or in any wise thereunto appertaining to him the said SAMUEL PITMAN, his heirs and assigns forever to his only proper use, benefit and behoof. And he the said SAMUEL PITMAN, his heirs and assigns shall and may from time to time, and at all times hereafter, forever have, hold, occupy, possess, and enjoy the above granted demised land and premises, With the appurtenances free and clear of all incumbrances whatsoever, that may come against the said land or premises. Further more, I the said JAMES JOSSEY and LYDIA my wife, for ourselves, our heirs and assigns, Do covenant and agree the above demised land and premises to him the said SAMUEL PITMAN, his heirs and assigns forever the above granted land and premises, with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging, free and clear of all incumbrances whatsoever. Now and forever hereafter shall remain continue and be unto the said SAMUEL PITMAN his heirs and assigns. In witness where of we have hereunto set our hand and seals the day and year first above written.
