16 March 1776       JAMES JOSEY  to  CULLEN EDWARDS

 

                This indenture made this Sixteenth day of March in the year of our Lord God One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy Six,  Between JAMES JOSEY of the Province of North Carolina of the one part, and CULLEN EDWARDS of the Province aforesaid of the other part.  Witnesseth that the said JAMES JOSEY for and in consideration of the sum of Two Hundred and Thirty Three Pounds Six Shillings and Eight Pence, proclamation money to him in hand paid, the receipt whereof the said JAMES JOSEY doth hereby acknowledge, and himself therewith fully and entirely contented, paid and satisfied, he the said JAMES JOSEY, hath given, granted, bargained, sold and do by these presents fully, clearly and absolutely give, grant, bargain, sell, alive, enfeoff, convey and forever make over and confirm unto the said CULLEN EDWARDS, and to his heirs and assigns forever a certain Mill, together with her running gear and all her utensils thereunto belonging with Two Acres of land, one on each side the stream, situate, lying and being on Looking Glass Swamp in Halifax County. To have and to hold the said land and premises with their and every of their appurtanances, with the reversion and reversions, remainder and remainders unto him the said CULLEN EDWARDS, and to his heirs and assigns forever, freely and clearly acquitted and discharged from him the said JAMES JOSEY, or from his heirs, executors, administrations or assigns forever and further the said JAMES JOSEY doth for himself, his heirs, executors, administrators covenant and agree to and with the said CULLEN EDWARDS, his heirs and assigns in manner and form following. That is to say that he the said, the said JAMES JOSEY, or his heirs shall and will at any times hereafter at the reasonable request of him the said CULLEN EDWARDS, his heirs, executors, administrators or assigns, and at his or their proper cost or charge, make any further or other conveyance that he the said CULLEN EDWARDS, shall think proper for the conveying and sure making the said land and premises unto him the said CULLEN EDWARDS, and his heirs and assigns forever. In witness whereof the said JAMES JOSEY, hath hereunto set his hand and fixed his seal the day and year above written.

                Then the aforegoing deed was duly proved by the oath of NATHAN BROWN, a witness thereto and on motion ordered to be registered.
