12 January 1784         JAMES & PEGGY JOSEY  to  JOHN GORING

 

                This indenture made this 12 day of January  One Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty Four, between JAMES JOSSEY and PEGGY JOSEY his wife of Halifax County of North Carolina of the one part, and JOHN GORING of the County and Province aforesaid, of the other part.  Witnesseth that the said JAMES JOSEY and PEGGY his wife, for and in consideration of the sum of Fifty Pounds current money of said State, to them in hand paid, before the seal and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof the said JAMES JOSEY and PEGGY his wife, doth hereby acknowledge and themselves, fully satisfied and paid for every part and parcel thereof, doth exonerate, acquit and discharge the said JOHN GORING, his heirs and assigns forever and by these presents hath granted, bargained and sold and delivered and by virtue of the same doth grant, bargain, sell and deliver unto the said JOHN GORING, his heirs and assigns forever, a certain tract or parcel of land lying on the South side of JOSEYS Plantation, in the County and Province aforesaid, containing Forty Three Acres, butted and bounded as follows, (Viz) beginning at a pond on the road, thence the said road 78 poles, the center of a Willow and Spanish Oak, then South 62 West 72 poles to the center of a White Oak, Red Oak and Willow Oak in JOSEYS back line, then along the said line South East 84 poles to a Gum, JOHN YOUNG and JOSEYS corner, then along his line to the first station, together with all privileges and appurtenances thereto belonging to him the said JOHN GORING, his heirs and assigns forever, to his and their only proper use benefit and behoof and we the said JAMES JOSEY and PEGGY JOSEY, doth covenant and promise that the said JOHN GORING, his heirs and assigns shall and may ever hereafter, and at all times hereafter, possess and enjoy the aforesaid land and premises, him and his heirs and assigns forever, and we the said JAMES JOSEY and PEGGY JOSEY, doth for ourselves and our heirs, executors, and administrators truly and fully warrant and ever defend the said land and premises to him the said JOHN GORING, his heirs and assigns forever against any person or persons claiming what ever in the law can be devised, advised or required. In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals, the day and year above written.
