5 JULY 1762              ALEXANDER STEVENSON  to   JAMES JOSSEY

 

                This indenture made the fifth day of July in the year of our Lord Christ, One thousand seven hundred and sixty two between ALEXANDER STEVENSON of Dublin County in the province of North Carolina of the one part and JAMES JOSSEY of Northampton County in the province aforesaid of the second part. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of Sixty five pounds current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said JAMES JOSSEY at or before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof the said ALEXANDER STEVENSON doth hereby acknowledge and thereof and of every part and parcel thereof doth hereby acquit, exonerate and discharge him the said JAMES JOSSEY by these presents; Hath given, granted, bargained and sold and by these presents; doth give, grant, bargain and sell unto the said JAMES JOSSEY, his heirs and assigns (that is to say) One tract, piece and parcel of land situate lying and being in the Ursarah Meadows in Northampton County in the province aforesaid, containing by estimation Ninety five acres, be the same more or less, and is bounded as followeth: Beginning at a white oak formerly ARTHUR WHITEHEADS line of trees, then along that line one hundred and eighty poles to a black oak, another of WHITEHEADS corners, then S70 E to a black oak in the said JAMES JOSSEYS line, then running the dividing line between the said JAMES JOSSEYS land and the land herein mentioned to a black oak standing in HENRY DAWSONS line, running from thence to the first station, and is the same land that was bequeathed unto BENJAMIN STEVENSON decd, the father of the said  ALEXANDER by the last will and testament of CHARLES STEVENSON, decd  as may more at large appears, and is a part of a patent granted to WILLIAM WHITEHEAD bearing date of 1st day of April anno 1723. The said JAMES JOSSEY to have and to hold the aforesaid tract or parcel of land with all the woods, underwoods, ways, waters and water courses, gardens, orchards, profits, commodities, privileges and advantages with the appurtances there unto belonging to him, the said JAMES JOSSEY, his heirs and assigns to the only proper use, benefit behoof of him the said JAMES JOSSEY, his hears and assigns forever, and the said ALEXANDER STEVENSON, his heirs, exec. And admin. doth covenant and promise, grant and decree to and with the said JAMES JOSSEY, his heirs and assigns in manner and form, following, that is to say that the same ALEXANDER STEVENSON at the time of the unsealing and delivery of these presents hath in himself good right, full power, lawful authority, to give, grant, bargain and sell the said tract, piece or parcel of land aforesaid unto him the said JAMES JOSSEY, his heirs and assigns in manner and form aforesaid, and the said tract and parcel of land now is and shall forever hereafter be and remain unto him the said JAMES JOSSEY, his heirs and assigns free and clear and clearly exonerated and discharged of and from all former gifts, grants, bargains, sales ----------- used entails, wills, bills, bonds, judgements and all other encumbrances whatsoever, and lastly the said ALEXANDER STEVENSON for himself, his hers, exec. And adm:  doth covenant, promise, grant and agree to and with the said JAMES JOSSEY, his heirs and assigns in manner and form, following, that is to say, that he the said  ALEXANDER STEVENSON shall and will at all times hereafter on the reasonable request of him, the said JAMES JOSSEY, his heirs and assigns, at his or their proper cost and charge make and do

acknowledge and execute all and every other act or acts, deed or deeds, thing or things for the better and more perfect assuring and conveying of the said tract, piece or parcel of land aforesaid, unto him the said JAMES JOSSEY, his heirs and assigns forever as by the council in the Law of him the said JAMES JOSSEY, his hears and assigns, shall be devised, advised or requested.

                Recorded July the 5th 1762, of JAMES JOSSEY the full sum of sixty five pounds current money of Virginia, in full for the within consideration recd  by me ALEXANDER STEVENSON and JOHN DUKE,THOMAS KNOX, SAMUEL LOCKHART, Northampton County South Carolina, August Court 1762. The preceding deed with the receipt for the consideration were severally proved on the open Court on the oath of JOHN DUKE one of the witnesses thereto and on motion was ordered be registered.
