Herman Oscar Josey, Jr., age 84, of 3329 Bracken House Road, Danville,
died Tuesday, December 8, 2009 in Danville
Regional Medical
Center.
Born May 2, 1925 in Salisbury,
North Carolina, Mr. Josey was the
son of the late Herman Oscar Josey, Sr. and Maggie Blanche Daniel Josey. He
spent most of his life in Northern Virginia and had been a resident of Danville since 1973. He
was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the medical corps
during World War II.
Mr. Josey was employed as a truck driver for Fleming Trucking Company, was a
member of Holland
Road Baptist
Church, and of the
American Legion. He was married to Lillian Mae Robertson Josey who predeceased
him in June 2007.
Survivors include two sons: Herman Adkins and William L. Adkins, both of Danville; two daughters: Linda A. Davis of Ringgold and
Martha Ann Keesee of Danville;
one sister: Patsy Ruth Setliff of Danville; 9 grandchildren, 8
great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by one son: Leonard Wayne Adkins; two
brothers; Lee Josey and Paul Josey; one sister: Helen Josey Simmons; and by two
grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 11 a.m. from
the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. James
Mayes and the Rev. Matthew Pacifico. Interment will
follow in Danville
Memorial Gardens
with graveside military rites by American Legion Post 1097 Honor Guard. The
family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 7 until
8:30 p.m. At other times, the family will be at the home of his sister, Patsy
Ruth Setliff, 3329 Bracken House Road in Blairmont.
